Cosmetology — An Industry With Job Growth
The nation's beauty salons are hiring, but there is a widening gap between the number of cosmetology licensees, which is declining, and the number of salons and job openings, which are increasing. Today's high school graduates, as well as displaced workers from other fields, are concerned about the assurance of their success before choosing a field. They are increasingly discovering that cosmetology offers more than a job opening. It's difficult to gauge exact figures for a cash business that includes tips. The Cosmetologists of America, Inc. web site notes that "the average professional cosmetologist's income is about $18.50 per hour, about $32,000 per year."
