Career Opportunities and High-Skill Education

Career Opportunities Abound —
With High-Skill Education
In a changing workplace, where three out of four jobs now require a technical or business skill, postsecondary high-skill education is giving students the hands-on experience they need to get good jobs.

High-skill education, as opposed to traditional academic education, provides training in specialized career fields in two years or less so students can enter the job market sooner.

Education After High School — Essential For Success

With no postsecondary education or training, people often end up with unskilled jobs . . . generally doing dull, dead-end, or dangerous work. in 2005, skilled jobs increased to 65% of the labor market, while unskilled jobs will fall to just 15% of the total workforce.

Cosmetology — An Industry With Job Growth
The nation's beauty salons are hiring, but there is a widening gap between the number of cosmetology licensees, which is declining, and the number of salons and job openings, which are increasing. Today's high school graduates, as well as displaced workers from other fields, are concerned about the assurance of their success before choosing a field. They are increasingly discovering that cosmetology offers more than a job opening. While it's difficult to gauge exact figures for a cash business that includes tips, a recent survey puts the income of full-time cosmetologists well above the U.S. average annual income.
